AI Security Warning Impacts Bitcoin Code Ecosystem
Discussions about Bitcoin (BTC) security are spreading due to the vulnerability exploration capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) models. While the Bitcoin protocol itself has not been compromised, warnings have been raised that the code ecosystem of wallets, libraries, and open-source repositories is now exposed to automated attack environments. CobraBitcoin has stated that as AI models become stronger, they are closely monitoring large-scale exploits. An exploit refers to a method of attacking software vulnerabilities, and concerns are growing that AI could analyze public code to identify potential weaknesses. OpenAI announced on September 1 that its GPT-6 Astra model meets 'Critical' cybersecurity standards. Under appropriate conditions, this model can discover unknown security flaws and develop attack methods. The Bitcoin development community is addressing both the utilization of AI and the need for vigilance, requiring compliance with policies when using AI tools. The Bitcoin red team scanned 501 open-source projects with AI, recording 7,958 findings, of which 1,280 were classified as high or critical. In incidents related to Coldcard, at least 1,778 BTC have been reported stolen. While AI can also be used as a defensive tool, it can increase the speed at which attackers explore vulnerabilities, necessitating caution.
