Bank Leumi to Launch Cryptocurrency Trading in Early 2027
Israel's largest bank, Bank Leumi, is set to launch cryptocurrency trading services for customers in early 2027. The bank's app will allow trading of Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL). Bank Leumi has formed a partnership with Galaxy Digital to provide digital asset trading services. Once launched, Bank Leumi will become the first bank in Israel to offer direct digital asset trading to its customers. The trading feature will be available to Bank Leumi customers and Pepper customers in the mobile banking sector, allowing them to trade digital assets in a secure zone within the Bank Leumi Trade capital markets application. Galaxy Digital will provide the trading infrastructure, while the custody will be managed by Galaxy Custody infrastructure, previously known as GK8. Bank Leumi plans to offer trading functionality within its existing banking platform rather than directing customers to external exchanges. This service will undergo regulatory and operational reviews, and the actual launch date and scope will be confirmed in subsequent announcements. The initial target assets are BTC, ETH, and SOL. Bank Leumi had also pursued cryptocurrency services in 2022 but did not proceed to actual service due to a lack of regulatory approval.
