Bitcoin Quantum Resistant Transaction Test and SHRINCS Signature Proposal

The Bitcoin network is taking significant steps to enhance its resilience against quantum computer threats. StarkWare has successfully executed a quantum-resistant transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet. A transaction valued at 10,000 satoshis, protected by the Quantum-Secure Bitcoin (QSB) system developed by Avihu Levy, was successfully spent to provide protection against quantum attacks. Additionally, Blockstream researchers have proposed updating Bitcoin's signature system with a post-quantum signature system called SHRINCS. Although SHRINCS signatures are at least nine times larger than current signatures, their sizes have been reduced by a factor of 13.23. This may create some disadvantages in the integration with the Bitcoin network. Solana has also published a roadmap against quantum computer threats. The three-phase plan includes migrating existing wallets to the new quantum-secure system and conducting research on alternative post-quantum signature systems. Furthermore, Solana validators approved a Double Inflation Reduction proposal that increases the annual inflation reduction rate from 15% to 30%. This new system aims to reduce Solana's annual inflation rate to approximately 1.5% within about 2.8 years.
