Changxin Technology Expected to Join VanEck China Semiconductor ETF by End of September

VanEck's China Semiconductor ETF may include Changxin Technology by the end of September, becoming a new focal point for overseas investors interested in Chinese tech assets. The product manager of the firm stated that U.S. institutional investors are increasingly focusing on Chinese semiconductors, and overseas funds are more willing to engage with Chinese innovative assets through technology-themed funds, particularly in sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries, precision manufacturing, and robotics. In June of this year, VanEck launched the first ETF focused on Chinese semiconductors in the U.S., the SMHC, which initially attracted about $200 million in inflows but subsequently experienced some outflows. Currently, the main buyers are institutions and registered investment advisors. The SMHC tracks a passive index, and the inclusion of individual stocks is determined by the index provider. The next adjustment window is at the end of September, and Changxin Technology may be included in that restructuring with a significant weight. The underlying index of the SMHC aims to select the top 25 Chinese semiconductor companies and weight them by size. VanEck believes that recent fluctuations in the semiconductor sector are influenced by the pullback of leading Korean stocks, rapid valuation increases, expectations of Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, and profit-taking by investors.
