MONTREAL, QUEBEC – MAY 10: Jack Della Maddalena of Australia celebrates after defeating Belal ... More Muhammad of the United States to win the welterweight title during UFC 315 at Bell Centre on May 10, 2025 in Montreal, Quebec. (Photo by Minas Panagiotakis/Getty Images) The moment UFC CEO Dana White wrapped the UFC welterweight title around Jack Della Maddalena’s waist, it felt like it was just a matter of time before White would announce that the freshly crowned champion’s next fight would come against Islam Makhachev. While that matchup has no date or location, White has announced that the Della Maddalena vs. Makhachev is set. We look at the opening odds for the next fight for the current UFC welterweight champion and (soon-to-be) former lightweight titleholder. Jack Della Maddalena Vs. Islam Makhachev Opening Betting Odds According to BetOnline, Makhachev opened as the -200 betting favorite over Della Maddalena, who was the +170 betting underdog following his win over Muhammad at UFC 315. Those betting lines have moved. Today, Makhachev is listed at -220, while the champ comes in at +185. How UFC 315 Decided Della Maddalena Vs. Makhachev In the lead up to UFC 315, White was asked if it was true that the winner of the Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena fight would determine if former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria would fight Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title or Charles Oliveira at UFC 317. The implication in that question was that if Muhammad won, then Makhachev would stay put at 155 pounds and not challenge his friend and training partner for the 170-pound crown, but that a Della Maddalena win would result in Makhachev moving up to welterweight to face Della Maddalena. White replied, “There is a lot of moving parts right now, and, yeah, that’s pretty accurate.” Forbes Belal Muhammad Reflects On UFC 315 Title Loss To Jack Della Maddalena By Trent Reinsmith Dana White Announces Della Maddalena Vs. More victory against Alexander Volkanovski of Australia in the UFC lightweight championship fight during the UFC 294 event at Etihad Arena on October 21, 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) “Current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is going to move up to the welterweight division to face Jack Della Maddalena,” White said earlier this week on Instagram. “What do we all love about Islam? If he had moved up to fight Belal, he was a 5-to-1 favorite. Moving up to fight Jack? The oddsmakers have this fight at even. This guy is a beast. Islam is the (expletive) best.” Ilia Topuria Will Challenge Charles Oliveira For The Vacant UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 317 ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – OCTOBER 26: Ilia Topuria of Spain reacts after a knockout victory ... More against Max Holloway in the UFC featherweight championship fight during the UFC 308 event at Etihad Arena on October 26, 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Former UFC featherweight champion Topuria will fight at lightweight for the first time since 2022 when he faces former UFC 155-pound champion Oliveira in the main event of UFC 317. The bout will serve as the headliner of the June 28 pay-per-view card, which is the centerpiece of International Fight Week in Las Vegas. “You all know Ilia Topuria, undefeated, 16-0, vacated his featherweight title. He knocked out ‘Volk’ (Alexander Volkanovski), (Max) Holloway, and now he’s moving up to lightweight, and he will face former lightweight champion and No. 2 ranked Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title,” White said on Instagram. Forbes UFC 317 Main Event Topuria Vs. Oliveira Opening Odds By Trent Reinsmith UFC 317 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. We will have more on UFC 317 and the next fight for Della Maddalena and Makhachev as those fight night cards near.
