Meta Abandons AI Native Plan, Layoff Plan of 60% Not Implemented

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's "Project OT" aimed to lay off up to 60% of employees to create an "AI native" workforce, but the plan has not materialized. After laying off about 10% of its workforce in May, the company canceled a second round of restructuring. The plan included breaking teams into smaller "pods" to reduce management layers and using AI tools to enhance efficiency, with the HR department tasked with identifying irreplaceable employees. Employees expressed dissatisfaction with the internal AI project failures and monitoring measures, as AI agents and coding tools did not boost productivity as expected. Zuckerberg acknowledged that the progress of AI agent technology has not met expectations but believes improvements will be seen in the next 3 to 6 months. Meta responded that the plan was a "scenario planning exercise," partially involving employee redeployment.
