New Tariff Approved by NEC 'Ukrenergo', Electricity Transmission to Increase by 25%
The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities has approved a new tariff for NEC 'Ukrenergo' for electricity transmission. Starting from August 1, 2026, the tariff will be 928.45 UAH per MWh excluding VAT, which is a 25% increase from the current level. A separate tariff of 563.26 UAH per MWh has been established for 'green' electric metallurgy enterprises. The tariff structure includes a component for fulfilling the state's special obligations to develop electricity production from alternative sources, amounting to 365.19 UAH per MWh. The volume of electricity transmission in the calculations of the NEURC is set at 89.55 million MWh. The new tariff will take effect on August 1, 2026. Previously, on July 7, the NEURC approved the tariff, but its final approval was postponed due to a legislative conflict. The issue arose from an error in the market coupling law, which prohibited the inclusion of costs for fulfilling special obligations in the tariff. After the norm was corrected by the Verkhovna Rada and signed by the president, the regulator was able to finally approve the tariff. The increase in the tariff is explained by the rise in exchange rates, the need to fulfill special obligations to support 'green' energy, a reduction in electricity transmission volumes, and an increase in costs for purchasing electricity.
