Osmosis Freezes 22.65 BTC from Nomic Chain Attacker's Address

By: x.com|2026/09/09 09:54:24

Osmosis has reported that the Nomic chain was attacked, with the attacker exploiting a vulnerability in the custom forwarding mechanism to carry out a double-spending attack, generating fake receipts and exchanging them for nBTC on Osmosis. Both Osmosis and the IBC protocol were unaffected. Currently, 39.84 nBTC have been minted, with approximately 36% of its collateral stored in Alloyed BTC synthetic assets. Following the incident, the Osmosis governance sub-DAO froze deposits and withdrawals between Nomic and Alloyed BTC, and completed an emergency upgrade with validators, freezing 22.65 BTC in the attacker's address. The team will submit a governance proposal to confiscate this portion of assets and request to use the remaining BTC in the community fund to cover the shortfall and restore the full collateral of Alloyed BTC.
