The AI fund founded by former members of the FTX Future Fund charity team increases investments in mining companies, including a stake in Cipher Mining
According to Fortune magazine, the hedge fund Situational Awareness, founded by former OpenAI researcher and former FTX Future Fund charity team member Leopold Aschenbrenner, is building positions in data infrastructure and cryptocurrency mining companies. The fund previously focused on artificial general intelligence (AGI), and as more crypto mining companies are being repurposed for AI workloads, the fund has increased its investments in this area.
Its new or increased positions include: fuel cell power generation company Bloom Energy (currently the fund's largest single holding), AI cloud infrastructure provider CoreWeave, and another large cryptocurrency mining company, Cipher Mining.
