Ukraine has accumulated 14.3 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage, allowing it to stay ahead of the schedule for preparing for the heating season. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during the Hour of Questions to the Government in the Verkhovna Rada. The total import potential of gas from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania is about 20 billion cubic meters per year, creating a reserve for diversifying sources and ensuring energy security. Naftogaz of Ukraine continues to import gas, with over 2.09 billion cubic meters already contracted, of which 2 billion cubic meters were imported from January to July. Shmyhal also noted that coal reserves in storage exceed planned indicators, which will allow the heating season to proceed according to the basic scenario. Ukraine plans to start the 2026-2027 heating season with at least 13 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage.
