The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities has appointed the Public Joint Stock Company "Market Operator" as the first nominated electricity market operator (NEMO) in Ukraine. This appointment is necessary for integrating the Ukrainian day-ahead and intraday markets with the markets of EU countries through the market coupling mechanism. The Public Joint Stock Company "Market Operator" has been operating since 2019 and has been participating in European cooperation formats since 2022. The new status will improve the synchronization of trading platforms, including joint procedures for more efficient use of cross-border interconnections and the development of cross-border trade. The transition to market integration will occur after all regulatory and technical requirements are met. The regulator's decision does not exclude the appointment of other NEMOs, as the law on the electricity market allows for multiple operators provided they meet the criteria. Additionally, the National Commission has updated the rules for connecting to electricity networks, which came into effect on September 1.
