In July 2023, approximately 1.5 million books from Ukrainian publishers were destroyed as a result of Russian shelling. Yulia Orlova, the CEO of the Vivat publishing house, reported significant damage to the publishing industry due to the destruction of warehouses containing finished products. The destroyed stock included books from various publishers, which are now forced to recover their lost resources. Representatives of the book market noted that such strikes damage not only individual companies but also the entire Ukrainian publishing sector, which continues to operate despite the challenges of war. On the night of July 2, 2023, a Russian attack on Kyiv completely destroyed the central warehouse of the Denka Logistics logistics complex, a key partner of the BookChef publishing house. Due to the destruction of this logistics facility, the publishing house lost about 800,000 copies of books and is working on restoring its logistics processes.
