Apple Issues Spyware Attack Alerts to Users in 110 Countries

Apple has once again issued security alerts to users suspected of being targeted by spyware. The company stated that this round of notifications covers 110 countries, warning some iPhone, iPad, and Mac users that their devices may be facing targeted attacks initiated by "commercial" spyware.

Apple told TechCrunch that these notifications were sent out on Thursday. The company also mentioned that it has sent similar alerts to users in over 150 countries to date, indicating that these surveillance tools, often associated with government agencies, have a wide reach.

Lock Screen Alerts Pop Up Directly

According to Apple's latest support documents, users can now receive push notifications directly on their iPhone lock screen. The alert will clearly state that Apple has detected a spyware attack targeting the device and prompt users to take immediate action to protect their data and devices.

In addition to lock screen push notifications, Apple will also send alerts via email and through on-site prompts when users log into their Apple accounts. Apple stated that the new alert process has been adjusted to help those receiving the alerts find follow-up information more quickly.

Apple Recommends Enabling Lockdown Mode Promptly

In the notifications, Apple guides users to seek help and suggests enabling "Lockdown Mode." This is a security feature offered by Apple for high-risk targets that significantly tightens device permissions, reducing the likelihood of successful spyware intrusions.
