Coinbase has obtained a financial services license from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority under Abu Dhabi Global Market. This license allows Coinbase to provide investment-dealing intermediation and custody services. Coinbase plans to establish an offshore securities token hub in Abu Dhabi and aims to launch tokenized stocks. Securities tokens registered and issued in ADGM will be fully backed by actual shares, granting verified token holders shareholder rights, including dividends and voting rights. Investors can access the service using only a wallet, without needing a brokerage account or correspondent bank, and all transfers will undergo sanctions screening. Regulatory requirements may allow for assets to be frozen or seized at the wallet level.
