The use of artificial intelligence in cryptocurrency crimes has increased by 40% over the past year, with the acceptance index of AI in crypto criminology reaching 54 out of 100. Ari Redbord, head of government affairs at TRM Labs, stated that AI has not created new crimes but has removed barriers and significantly lowered the skill level required for committing crimes. The amount of deepfake fraud using AI has increased more than 13 times since 2022, and the financial losses from these frauds are projected to surge by 263% in 2026 compared to the entire year of 2025. North Korean-backed hackers are widely using deepfakes to impersonate IT staff and conduct AI-based social engineering. In the first half of the year, 201 security attacks were recorded, with 61% of the losses, amounting to $600 million, directly linked to North Korean groups. Additionally, the JadePuffer ransomware has been identified as the first fully automated ransomware that carries out all stages of an attack without human intervention. The entry of AI into the cryptocurrency crime ecosystem has escalated the scale and complexity of phishing attacks and infrastructure breaches to unprecedented levels.
