Number of Billionaires Worldwide Rises to 3,795, Setting a New Record
A report released by wealth intelligence firm Altrata shows that the number of billionaires worldwide reached 3,795 in 2025, an increase of 8.2%, marking the strongest growth in five years. The rapid increase in the wealth of super-rich individuals has been driven by rising stock markets, monetary stimulus policies, and a surge in investments in artificial intelligence. The total wealth of billionaires grew by 12.8%, setting a record of $151 trillion, which accounts for about a quarter of the total market capitalization of the S&P 500 index. The average wealth of billionaires is $4 billion, with a median net worth close to $2 billion, indicating that wealth is highly concentrated among a few "super billionaires." The number of billionaires in North America increased by 11.6% to 1,337, accounting for 35% of the global total; the number of billionaires in Europe grew by nearly 8% to 1,081, making up 28% of the global total; and the number of billionaires in Asia rose by 6.5% to 881. The report notes that since 2023, the surge in investments in artificial intelligence has been a significant driver of wealth creation for billionaires, with its impact expected to become even more pronounced in 2025 and the first half of 2026. Investors' enthusiasm for generative AI, large language models, cloud computing, and AI software has attracted substantial capital, leading to a reevaluation of technology companies' market values, with billionaires' wealth primarily concentrated in company equities. Founders and major shareholders of tech companies have become the biggest beneficiaries, experiencing significant increases in their personal net worth.
