OpenAI Secures 3.2GW Power and Hires Infrastructure Personnel

OpenAI has secured the necessary 3.2GW of power for its data center in Georgia and is hiring personnel related to power trading and site development. According to Project Camellia, Georgia Power is set to gradually supply electricity from 2028 to 2032. OpenAI is recruiting for positions such as Chief of Power Trading, Site Developer for Power Projects, and Head of Clean Energy and New Technologies. Electrical engineers will be responsible for designing and scaling the power systems required for high-density AI computing. The recruitment for power-related roles is interpreted as an intention to comprehensively address various stages of data center operations. OpenAI has stated that it will bear all costs for the infrastructure and power services required for the project, without passing on any increases in electricity rates to residents. During the project period, it is expected to provide $80 million in benefits to the community and support up to $71 million in tax credits. The power supply contract will last for 25 years, and OpenAI will participate in flexible demand response of up to 1000MW.
