The world’s first virtual asset (digital asset) tracking competition, 'SCAN 2026', will take place on September 28 at 9 AM at Monaco Space in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

SCAN 2026, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity and investigative capabilities in digital assets, is organized by digital asset information company DAsset, with global blockchain data platform Chainalysis participating as a CTF (Capture The Flag) partner.

The final of SCAN 2026 will feature the top 20 teams from the preliminary round (a total of 416 teams, 754 participants).

conducted written interviews with teams composed of global investigative agencies, security experts, and university students that advanced to the finals.

*The teams that made it to the finals are as follows. (In alphabetical order)

    0xfun / 1nf1n1ty / 67 / BITSkrieg / CertiScan / DeFiHackLabs / EDCCS / Funds Went to Kerning City / hello / IBarelyKnowHer / J0y_B0y / lazarus2026 / Lv1x / Project Sekai / T34M1 / Tardigrades / Tornado Cats / youtiaos / Upside Academia / Chaos of KAOS

    Q. What motivated you to form the team, and what backgrounds and expertise do the team members have?

"BITSkrieg is a cybersecurity club and CTF (Capture The Flag) competition team from BITS Pilani K. K. Birla Goa Campus in India. What brought us together was a shared interest in solving challenging security problems and a willingness to constantly challenge ourselves in new areas beyond our familiar fields.

We actively participate in various CTF competitions held worldwide. Our team culture focuses on learning together across different fields, sharing ideas, and actively tackling problems that may initially seem unfamiliar or different.

Raghav Maheshwari --- Team Leader, Computer Science

A fourth-year student in Computer Science, Raghav is a CTF player with a broad range of activities in binary exploitation, blockchain security, digital forensics, web vulnerability attacks, and reverse engineering. He was part of a team that won an excellence award at the 2026 HackTheon Sejong and placed second in the 2025 CyberQ CTF finals.

    Kanishk Rai --- Computer Science

A fourth-year student in Computer Science, Kanishk specializes in blockchain security, web vulnerability attacks, and digital forensics. He was a member of the team that won an excellence award at the 2026 HackTheon Sejong and placed second in the 2025 CyberQ CTF finals.

Shreya Rai --- Electronics and Communication Engineering

A fourth-year student in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Shreya specializes in digital forensics, blockchain security, and reverse engineering. She won first place at the 2025 Cyber For Her Hackathon and received an excellence award at the 2026 HackTheon Sejong.

Siddharth Nautiyal --- Life Sciences, Environment, and Sustainability

A third-year student studying Life Sciences and Environment & Sustainability, Siddharth is interested in binary exploitation, blockchain and web3 security, web security, and artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). He recently placed second at the ISEA ISAP CTF held at IIT Madras and second at the Silicon Labs Edge Intelligence Challenge.

The fact that we have different academic backgrounds and technical strengths is one of the reasons our team can collaborate effectively. We look at the same problem from different perspectives and quickly share clues we discover along the way. We are also accustomed to learning from each other when faced with problems that involve multiple technical domains. For us, the process of exchanging ideas is as important as individual expertise."

    Q. You have advanced to the finals of SCAN 2026, which had 416 teams participating in the preliminaries. How do you feel about reaching the finals, and what was the most memorable moment during the preliminaries?

"We are very happy to have advanced to the finals of SCAN 2026 out of 416 teams. SCAN is special in that it combines competitive cybersecurity with real blockchain investigation and analysis. It closely aligns with the fields we enjoy.

The finals will also provide an opportunity to interact with researchers, founders, security teams, and business representatives in the digital asset ecosystem during Korea Blockchain Week (KBW). Some team members are returning to Korea after participating in HackTheon Sejong, making this experience feel even more special. It’s another chance to compete internationally on behalf of our school in a field with very high technical difficulty.

The most memorable moment was at the end of the preliminaries. Multiple investigations happening across different blockchains were nearing conclusions simultaneously, and team members had to quickly navigate through analyzing fund flows, transaction metadata, wallet behavior patterns, and validating final answers.

Some problems could not be solved by examining just one transaction. We had to construct a bigger picture based on complex and noisy on-chain data.

I particularly remember the moment when all team members were simultaneously tracking addresses, validating hypotheses, and cross-verifying each other's results while our ranking remained within the qualifying range for the finals. It felt more like conducting an organized investigation under pressure than just finding the answers to individual problems."

    Q. What was the most challenging problem or situation you faced while solving the SCAN 2026 preliminary problems? How did you approach and solve the problem?

"There were no conceptually particularly difficult problems. Rather, what was important was the ability to choose the right tools and speed, as well as how efficiently we could process vast amounts of on-chain data.

Once we found the right direction, the key was to quickly structure the data, validate the results, and then move on to the next problem immediately.

Ultimately, this preliminary round was more about testing how efficiently and quickly we could solve problems within a limited time rather than the difficulty of any specific problem."

    Q. What tools, technologies, and analytical methods did you use for on-chain data analysis and fund flow tracking during the preliminaries? If you developed any programs or analytical methods, please share them as well.

"We utilized blockchain explorers, public RPC/API data, and simple Python scripts for data filtering, aggregation, parsing, and validation.

Generally, we expanded our tracking from the initial address (seed address) or transaction given in the problem, standardized the data, and then directly validated important conclusions on-chain.

After the preliminary round, we utilized Codex during the upsolving process to quickly perform script writing, query repetition, and repetitive analysis.

Codex helped us create and improve analytical tools faster, but the judgment during the investigation process and the final result verification were carried out by the team members themselves.

    Q. What do you think is the team's greatest strength or differentiated problem-solving approach?

"Our greatest strength lies in our broad technical capabilities and experience, as well as our fearlessness in facing unfamiliar problems.

Most of our team members have participated in CTFs since their early college days, so we have repeatedly experienced situations where the intended solution to a problem is unclear, the tools we were using do not work properly, or a single problem unexpectedly crosses multiple technical domains.

Thanks to these experiences, we have become comfortable solving problems even in uncertain situations. We do not overly specialize in specific areas to the extent that we pass problems in other fields off as 'someone else's problem.'

A single blockchain problem may require intuition related to smart contracts, scripting, reverse engineering, protocol operations, forensics, and exploits simultaneously. Instead of approaching these areas separately, we try to combine multiple perspectives.

Our team has participated in fierce security competitions both domestically and internationally, such as Hackathon Sejong, CyberQ CTF finals, and ISEA ISAP. Through these experiences, we have learned how to quickly distribute tasks, share unfinished intermediate results, validate each other's assumptions, and operate efficiently even under time constraints.

Another characteristic of BITSkrieg is that it is not limited to a single major or CTF field. Students studying computer science, electronic communications, life sciences, and environmental sustainability come together with diverse technical backgrounds in exploits, forensics, blockchain security, Web3, AI, and ML.

This diversity allows us to approach a single problem from multiple directions."

    Q. What preparations are you making ahead of the finals?

"First, we are reviewing the SCAN 2024 problem writeups available on GitHub and studying the investigation and analysis methods that were important in past competitions.

The goal is not to memorize past answers but to fully understand the key techniques used in problem-solving so that we can independently reproduce the same investigative process from the beginning.

In the coming weeks, we plan to hold internal focus sessions centered around blockchain forensics and Web3 security. We will cover transaction graph analysis, smart contract operations, wallet clustering, mixer and money laundering patterns, cross-chain fund tracking, Solana transaction analysis, and rapid script writing for large-scale data processing.

We plan to revisit certain types of problems under time constraints, and we will also hold internal sessions where each team member explains their problem-solving methods to others. This way, we aim to make the preparation process collaborative and ensure that useful skills or know-how do not remain with only specific team members.

Our goal for the finals on September 28 is simple: to enter the finals equipped with stronger tools and faster investigation and analysis processes, with all team members actively contributing to various areas of the on-chain investigation."

    Q. If you win first place in the finals and receive a prize, what would you like to do?

"For us, the prize has a meaning beyond monetary value. Winning BTC (Bitcoin) at an international blockchain security competition is something truly exciting. Therefore, I would like to hold onto a significant portion of the prize rather than using it immediately like a typical prize.

Since it will be the first prize that BITSkrieg receives in Bitcoin, I want to keep it as a symbol to remember the efforts put into SCAN 2026 and reaching the finals, as well as the team that earned the prize together.

It is also special that the cybersecurity team solves a blockchain forensics problem to earn its first Bitcoin.

At the same time, I hope this achievement does not end with a single competition but contributes to the future of BITSkrieg. A portion of the prize can be reinvested for travel expenses, infrastructure, research equipment, and training for junior team members for future international competitions. Winning at SCAN will directly benefit the next generation of BITSkrieg team members.

Of course, the most important goal right now is to win the prize first. We are approaching the finals with confidence, but we are also maintaining the preparation and focus needed to secure first place in the competition.
