Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te has announced a plan to distribute 10,000 New Taiwan Dollars (TWD), approximately 300 euros, to every citizen. This "AI dividend" represents a total envelope of 235.7 billion TWD, integrated into the central budget for 2027, with projected revenues reaching 3,926.6 billion TWD. The balanced budget will be submitted for review by the Legislative Yuan before the end of the year, with potential payments before the Lunar New Year in February 2027. Taiwan's growth reached 14.15% in the first half of the year, supported by global demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services, benefiting semiconductor giants like TSMC. However, Lai Ching-te acknowledged that this prosperity does not benefit everyone, particularly employees in services and SMEs. This payment aims to correct this imbalance. This is not the first cash distribution in Taiwan, as a similar operation took place in 2025. Some analysts see it as a political gesture ahead of the 2028 elections, while the Kuomintang is calling for the payment to be increased to 20,000 TWD. Meanwhile, Taiwan is exploring the creation of a strategic reserve in Bitcoin.
