Amazon Plans to Expand Drone Delivery to 500 Cities in the U.S.

Amazon plans to expand its Prime Air drone delivery service to nearly 500 cities and towns in the U.S. by the end of 2026. Currently operating in 11 hubs, it has announced its entry into Chicago, Atlanta, Cleveland, Syracuse, and Boise. The drone delivery will target small items weighing under 5 pounds, with some orders expected to be delivered within 30 minutes. Uber and Zipline announced a strategic partnership on August 17, aiming to start their first deliveries this year and targeting one million drone deliveries per day by 2029. DoorDash launched DoorDash Air after receiving FAA Part 135 certification on July 29 and is developing its own drones. Walmart announced plans to create over 270 drone delivery hubs by 2027 and reported surpassing one million cumulative drone deliveries as of May 29. The competitive focus of drone delivery is shifting towards the repeatability of service, while technical limitations and regulatory issues still exist.
